Granny Square Blanket

Last year sometime I started these squares, taking inspiration from these pretty shades as I saw them sitting together. This is not my regular kind of colour palette, I lean to bright and pops and citrus colours hold real appeal to me.
I planned to make a cushion cover but as I started joining something sparked in me, that feeling of seeing something grow before your eyes and realising its potential.

I decided to carry on beyond cushion dimensions and go for a blanket.
i put this aside while I worked on my kids cushions them picked it up again in Jan. I was weaving in ends and joining rows as I went. I changed construction method of the squares as I learned, Once when I put it down for a period of time I made the next square with a larger hook. ( whoops. )

Once it got to the size where it could comfortably fit over my lap here in the chair where I usually craft I decided to end it as I was getting bored with the lack of colour, don't misunderstand I do love this combo! I just needed to finish off this work, my first 'big' thing, my crochet learning curve piece. My joins are wonky and uneven in places but I still love it.

I made this up with Bendigo 4 ply cotton in light teal, parchment and honeydew. I used a 3.50 hook, except one square for which I used a 4.50 hook ;) I joined using a single crochet seam on the back, but only through one loop of the stitch, not both. When they were all joined I bordered the blanket with two rows of granny stitches; 3 doubles or trebles, depending on which terminology you use, clustered. Then an additional 2 rows of single which I think 'frame' it nicely.

  4. Doesn't it make you feel good to actually finish a UFO? It looks wonderful Tammy, I think you did a marvelous job...better than I could do (never been really good at crotchet) and I can't see any real wonkiness about it.
    Hugs,
