Simple Chocolate Slice recipe.

I have been making this for at least 5 years, probably even more like 8 years, and found the recipe on another blog somewhere along the line, though I cant exactly recollect whose recipe it originally was. When I tried to link back to the recipe for an Instagram friend I couldn't find it. So I'm posting it here today feeling some disbelief that I wouldn't have posted or linked to it before as it is a staple in my fussy Children's repertoire.

Simple Chocolate Slice Recipe

Ingredients:-

1 1/2 cups wholemeal SR flour
1 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 cup desiccated coconut
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 egg
125 g melted butter.

Method:-

Mix it all up together adding the wet ingredients to the dry. Press into a slice tin and bake in a moderate oven for 20 to 25 mins. Let cool in tin then turn out and ice as desired.

We usually ice with simple chocolate icing and top with either coconut or hundreds and thousands, I have also simply drizzled icing or melted chocolate as a topping, on occasions. Just to be clear these 'occasions' would usually be of the icing sugar absence or shortage variety, not the 'special' variety. I use wholemeal flour, organic coconut and try for hundreds and thousands free from artificial colours these days. If these dietary factors are not of concern use what is in your cupboard, its a pretty forgiving recipe. I've subbed some almond meal in it, added sultanas and chocolate chips to it and even added some rice bubbles once! Enjoy.

  1. This looks like an old classic recipe I used to make as a teenager. I'd forgotten all about it! Thanks for sharing this Tammy. I'll be whipping this up for my kids school lunches very soon. Have I mentioned that I'm back to being a full time SAHM this year? I'm loving it, especially having the chance to take better care of myself, my family and our home. Reconnecting with some of my simple living blogs is wonderful - especially yours. Lots of love to you and yours. xo
