Looks like you don't have any fig experts in your reg readers! :) My Mum loves figs, I will try to remember to ask her to pop over to your blog next time she is checking out mine.
I'm no fig expert, but I'm pretty sure that they will be fine to eat as long as they're not rock hard. If you've got heaps of them, try making a clafoutis - I made one a while ago and Jo loved it. I think I used this recipe http://www.notquitenigella.com/2010/03/24/plum-nectarine-clafoutis/, but you can use pretty much any fruit.
