I'm no fig expert, but I'm pretty sure that they will be fine to eat as long as they're not rock hard. If you've got heaps of them, try making a clafoutis - I made one a while ago and Jo loved it. I think I used this recipe http://www.notquitenigella.com/2010/03/24/plum-nectarine-clafoutis/, but you can use pretty much any fruit.Tash
