So I got to thinking about why I loved the idea of trying to turn the dresses I mentioned yesterday into a handbag. Why it felt like such a perfect match and why they held a special place.
I guess they represent those heady early days of first time mother hood, my sweet girl was just 6 months old when wearing these.
To be able to carry a little of that feeling, that watching her grow and develop with wonderment feeling, with me everyday would be magic.
The fabric weight is perfect, its cotton and I think it would be called a drill type weight. The tiny pockets are perfect mobile phone and key size!
If I am clever enough I hope to be able to keep and work some of these sweet details into my bag.
I love these embossed metal buttons.
Now can I actually translate what is in my head to reality using these two dresses to create a sweet handbag with cute detail ??? Time will tell.

ooooh YES you can! You are right, they do go very well together, very matchy matchy. Maybe practice with something else first? Make a mock? Love the idea xox

ReplyDeleteyour ideas are exciting & models so sweet ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea turning those sweet dresses into a purse or bag. I have several items from my twin girls that are now almost 7 that I would love to refab into something else. I hope we can see the finished product. Michelle :)

ReplyDeleteTammy...over the years i have had many visions of beauty....some work some dont...but thats part of the learning curve and the fun..right? i have found it very helpful to make a paper version first....well at least the pattern anyhow...its easy really ...fiddly perhaps but worth it in the long run as you can throw away many paper dummies before you get exactly what it is you want...i look forward to seeing your little bag and those pics are gorgeous..i knew it was Rachel..straight up on the left...interesting...have fun my friend x :)
ReplyDeletegreat idea. cant wait to see what you make out of that gorgeous fabric. Its too good not to create something different out of it.
