Plum Jam

Is where these lovelies are destined to be. We picked these a few days ago and I cooked them up this morning, they are cooling now.

I'm not ready to make the jam yet so have just cooked these enough to freeze. I'll weigh and label the fruit for the freezer and when I am better prepared for the jam making on a cooler day will pull them out and get to work. This fruit is from one side of a grafted tree bearing two varieties of plums. the other side will be ready within days. I have also frozen Apricots and Peaches with Vanilla in this way and have more whole boysenberries in the freezer ready for jam too.

My mood changed from where it was my last post after a good nights sleep.
Thanks so much for all the lovely care in the comments. x

    1. It is Sheree, I only made a small amount of jam last year which was our first year here but it did see us through the whole year, there are just two jars left now as I'm about to start again. :) x

  2. Mmmm plum jam my favourite, yes you are very lucky to have your own fruit trees. I saw a recipe for nectarine jam, I will have to give that a go. And here's to the power of sleep.

    1. Ohhh. The cockatoo's have discovered our nectarine tree, the fruit is not quite ripe yet and they are destroying it! :(

  4. Oh yummo Tammy, I decided to be lazy this year and I am just stewing and freezing fruit this year. The Country Women's Association shop jams are so tasty and easy. Having said that I STILL have LOTS of apricot jam from last years batch in the freezer... Better get one out and start using it up!

  5. Wattle birds took most of our Apricots and now the Cockatoos are into one of the plums and nectarines ( that are still green ) they are making a terrible mess. Buggers.

  6. oh Tammy....this must be a very busy time in the kitchen for you.....seeing as I know just how many established fruit trees you inherited with the house....Keep up the good work....It's a lovely thing to be able to enjoy your own fruit in the middle of winter.
Mum even asked after you and was wondering how you were going with all that fruit....she said she would take a few cases off your hands for you..but I know who would be doing all the cooking...lol....If only I lived closer, I could help with all the standing and stirring....Or I could just stand out there for you and chase all those pesky birds away that are eating your future harvests.
