Boy Clothes!

I made some shorts!

I asked him to put them on so I could take some photos and it didn't go quite the way I was expecting.

These took a long time for me to make being at the machine most of the afternoon yesterday, but now that I have the pattern and have made them once it will be much quicker next time.

I had the most problems trying to understand how to do the fake fly and did it a little differently to how they said I should but after I did it I realised what all those words actually 'said'. Sometimes you just have to do it to be able to understand it.

By that time I was over it and so opted to leave out the belt loops, drawcord and didn't read the waistband instructions.
I used the pattern piece I had cut and constructed it based on a skirt waistband I did a few weeks ago.

I'm quite happy with the end result as a first try, its not perfect, I knew it wouldn't be, thats why I opted to not do the contrast stitching first go!

The colour in these pics is dubious but you get a better idea of the shorts design. These are from Ottober design Summer 3/2009.

  1. I really don't understand the whole fake fly instructions either, so I just winged it when making my first one a couple of weeks ago. Patterns really don't explain it properly.
